Hey everyone, today I will present you my finished independent project idea for re-designing TTC bus shelter. More descriptions below.
The main idea of this re-design is to add more accessibility to the shelters and make the shelter cleaner and nicer. Speaking about idea, I already have a rough sketch in my mind on what it will look like.
First thing is the structure, the structure of the bus shelters will be the same, since they fit to the crosswalk and street. However, in some shelters their structures are not extended to the ground. I will extend all the shelters to reach just a little centimeters from the ground to prevent cold wind coming inside in the winter. Second is the bench inside the shelters, they will be the same except the size will be increased for about 0.5 m from the original size to provide more comfort. And the third is all the addition that I will add to the shelters.
So, the first addition I will add to the shelters is floor. Why floor? Because it makes the shelter look good and helps to maintain the cleanness. Since Canada has a long winter, I will choose the type of floor that can absorbs snow and also the floor that can easily be cleaned because snow always makes things dirty when it melts. The floor also will be painted in colours and every shelter will have its own colour. They will be painted because it makes them look colourful, which in psychological perspective it will have an impact to everyone.
The second addition I will add to the shelter is a heater and cooling machine. This will give comfort to people waiting for bus in the winter and summer. The machine will be placed underneath the floor, which is below the ground and the air from the machine will circulated throughout the shelter.
The third addition is an interactive screen on the inside back of the shelter. The interactive screen is meant to provide information about the next bus as well as the information about the whole transit system in case something happens. It also supports multiple screens. So for example, in one screen there will be four screens. One is showing the information on the next bus, one will be showing the information of the transit, one will be showing a news and weather which can be CP24 channel, and one will be showing the important thing in the city right now, whether it is an alert, event, or anything. The screen will be about 32" less or more and will display and HD OLED screen and it will also be a touchscreen screen. The screen will be weatherproof and crackproof to make it last long.
The last addition is a pair of speakers for radio. It will be placed on the inside front top corner left and right. The power of the radio is placed below the ground like the heater and cooling machine, and the signal will be at the roof protected by a small cage. The radio can be controlled by the public through the screen. However it needs a permission from other people if there are people there, otherwise the radio will always be on a default country's radio which is CBC.
The purpose of these addition is make the shelter more nicer, friendlier, and better. The interactive screen helps people to find information and the speakers help people to enjoy their wait in the bus shelter so they do not get bored.
